Preventive is Ok, But What If Covid-19 Virus Somehow Come Into Our Respiratory System?

The Covid-19 pandemic is something that frightening everyone now, because the impact of its illness and the risk of death is quite large. Besides, the transmission between one person to the other is also very easy, and its symptoms are not suddenly raise after the contact, but it will take a few days, which is called the incubation period, adding more complexities in handling earlier, to anticipate this virus entering our bodies.

Preventive measures such as washing hands, social distancing, wearing masks
everywhere and so on is very good, and indeed it is much-much better to prevent rather than cure.

But what happens if somehow this virus has entered our body, and what are our steps to overcome?

WAR with Virus

Like in a war, any scenarios may happen at any time outside of our expectations. For example we have done all the precautions as described above, but somehow the virus still enters our bodies (our respiratory system).

So what will we do?

First of all we must know the 'battlefields' of this war that we are facing:

1. The nasal cavity, mouth, and eyes.
2. Trachea
3. Lungs

These three battlefields are part of the Respiratory System which is targeted by virus attack.

1. Nose, Mouth and Eyes

These three organs are the main entry points for COVID-19. From the eye, it will down into the nasal cavity, from the mouth can go down to the trachea. And from the nose will also go to the trachea as well.

So basically, the nasal cavity and mouth are the first battlegrounds that were attacked by this virus. In there, there are some cells called Mucous Cells that lining the walls of the nasal cavity that produce a protective mucous layer of the nasal cavity. Mucous is also produced by the Mucus glands at the top of the nose.

This first battlefield is very important, why?

Because if the virus has infected the lining cells of the nasal cavity, and started multiplying themselves and then flowing into our nasal mucus, then there is possibility that this mucus will be released when we sneeze, infecting other people, and also will flow down further into the trachea and make even bigger damage.

How to overcome?

The trick is to frequently clean the nose with water. We can use 0.9% NaCl spray or can also use clean water that is inhaled, hold a second, and then sprayed out of the nose. Do it when you are alone in the bathroom for example. Spit it directly into the drain and then rinse immediately.

Put water into the nasal cavity, then throw it. It is called Istinsyaq as part of Washing (wudhu') in ISLAM religion

That is the reason why every time we travel out, or after meeting with some other people even though with mask and physical distance, we still have to wash our hands and face with water and soap, then clean the nose with water, so that the viruses that unintentionally entered our nose will be immediately thrown out, and not nested in the nasal cavity.

What if the virus somehow entering your mouth?

If we go out, we also have to diligently gargling and drinking warm water (don't drink cold water or ice), because the virus doesn't like warm water. The virus that is still left in the oral cavity will be swallowed into the esophagus, then it will enter the stomach, where hydrochloric acid is waiting to destroy them. This is indeed our body's defense mechanism with this stomach acid.
